What can we say about Eye Brows? Would you put a cheap frame around a beautiful masterpiece? Of course not! The Eye brows frame your eyes. Keep the eyebrows clean, simple and elegant with just a few simple steps.
SO, WHERE DO I BEGIN?
Cosmetology professionals are well trained in how to shape the brow in the perfect way for your particular face shape. There are many considerations to be made when shaping your brows, for instance...If you have a larger bone structure - a thicker, heavier brow is needed...if you are petite and delicate, a thinner, finer brow shape may be needed. BALANCE IS KEY! Always seek the advice of a trained professional in selecting the perfect shaped brow for you.
Most women get their eyebrows waxed, plucked, threaded, or shaped, again it is best to seek the advice of a pro, but here are a few tips to accent your brows. An extra way to add a little shape to your face is to fill in your brows with a brow powder or pencil or even a stain. This is especially important if your brows are sparse or fair.
Use a small, stiff, angled brush to add definition to the brow with a powder brow color. If you use a brow pencil, you can use this same style of brush to soften the lines made by the pencil. I prefer the brow powder over a pencil, but sometimes both are needed if your brows are extremely thin. When using the pencil, make short, small strokes the same direction as your brows grow. (You are trying to simulate the actual eyebrow hair). Find a brow powder that matches the color of your hair. Or, if you are a very light blonde, go a couple of shades deeper for added definition. Redheads sometimes have a hard time finding a reddish-brown brow powder, but there is a wider selection of colors available in eye shadows that can double as a brow powder. Just make sure the eye shadow is a matte shade and doesn't have any shimmer to it. Follow with a small amount of clear brow setting gel or spray on your brow brush to keep your brows in shape all day long.
Keep a brow brush in your makeup bag. The perfect brush tool has angled, stiff bristles that are short and will allow you to brush the powder right into your brows. When you add the step of filling your brows with powder to your makeup routine, you'll be amazed at how extra polished and professional your makeup will look.

With the advent of YouTube and online information, there is no doubt an information overload. Information is wonderful, however, misinformation can be VERY DANGEROUS. You can get a very false sense of what is important, what is time sensitive, and what is real. Just because someone has a Million Likes doesn't mean they are a master of their craft. It simply means they are entertaining. With the trend on entertaining I have seen so many YouTube entertainers doing so many crazy and dangerous things it is scary.
In the Beauty Industry we deal with live people. We touch people. People who know they want to look good, but don't know how.
It is our job to ask, analyze and access the situation, and to make a professional determination of if the service is a good idea, and if it is achievable. We have to be honest. We must have integrity. We want to see our clients again, and again. We want to help them to achieve their goals. We know our work will speak for itself, good or bad. We are not YouTubers laughing and joking about the clients problems, a client's problem is our problem and we want to help them attain their goals.
So how do we come to understand the needs and wants of our clients? How do we determine what products to use? How do we figure out the mode of application, timing and technique? We go back to the Basics of Cosmetology 101! There are no short cuts! There is no magic formula you can use on every single client! Each client is different. Each client is an individual. Even identical twins can have very seperate lives, with seperate needs and cannot be serviced the same while in the stylist's chair. EDUCATION IS KEY!
Did you know that in Basic Cosmetology students learn about basic health and nutrition, anatomy, physiology, microbiology, infection control, histology of the hair, aromatherapy, reflexology, communication, chemistry, electricity, design principles, color artistry, nail structure and growth, nail and skin disorders and diseases, they also learn about the history of the craft, wig and hairpieces, braiding, hairstyling, haircoloring, haircutting and the mathematics of haircutting, hair removal, facials, facial makeup, they go on to learn about nails including natural and artificial nail care, tips and wraps, freeforms, acrylics, hard and soft gels, and then they finish with salon and business training, state board licensure and employment?
In the field of Cosmetology, things change very quickly. Products and tools are constantly being upgraded and modified and it is very important for even the seasoned profession to attend seminars and workshops to further their education on products, chemistry and advances in tools. It's an ever changing World, The Beauty Industry, and if you don't keep up ....You will be left behind.
I have been in this wonderful profession since 1982, and I still love it! I surround myself with fellow educators who have the same passion I have for the Beauty Industry.

I'm still amazed when I see a new artist present their take on an old procedure. I go to many different trainings each year. I love seeing all the new fun colors and styles.

Prom is a busy time every year in the salon for beauty professionals.
This year our Team P.M.C.A. included, Kassidy, Kaylie, Nicole and Taylor. They did an excellent job working with a group of girls from a local school, to help them look and feel beautiful on their special day.
The day started with the prep work.
Wash - Rinse - Repeat...
A great shampoo, and condition to get the girls hair in the best possible condition, followed with a blow out with wonderful products. The hair looked great and felt amazing!
After selecting the style and finishing the blow out, the stylists started adding curls, curls, and more curls. Girls love their curls on prom day...we did ribbon curls, spiral curls and even flat iron curls to add the effect we wanted to make these girls styles pop. Our students enjoyed working with the girls to give each girl the perfect style, customized just for them.

We recently had five more students graduate and take their board exams. Each one passed and they are all now working in professional salons and spas. We are so proud of these wonderful young ladies!

What a Wonderful time we had with CHI Educator and Artist, Kewonia Grimes. Kewonia is very knowledgeable about CHI Products and how being a CHI Partner School helps the student during school as well as after graduation. Kewonia stayed after Career Day and helped us with our first Beauty Bash - Up Style Class to give stylists and educators the tools we need to help others with the latest trends in "Red Carpet Hair" and "Prom Hair" for 2015 season. Career Day is a day of education for prospective students and their parents and or spouses to help them learn about the Cosmetology Program at Penny Miller Cosmetology Academy.
We will have Guest Speakers on hand from our Partners at CHI Environmental School Program to answer questions about CHI, and other guests to talk about Careers in Cosmetology.
This will be a day of fun filled knowledge and activities to help prospective students understand more about the field.
Refreshments will be available, we will have a short presentation at 12:30, then we will follow with questions and answers about the field. Later we will be doing demonstrations and tours of the facility.
We hope you will take this opportunity to drop in and learn facts about the Cosmetology Field, see our school and find out more about Careers in Cosmetology.

Fall of 2014 has been a wonderful experience. Beautiful weather, happy and fun clients, students excited about learning about the wonderful field of Cosmetology. What more could we ask for...we have been so blessed with friends and family this year!
This season, three of our students, Morgan Stewart, Jenny Cozad, and Chade King all completed their Cosmetology training. It is always sad to see them go but, Wow, how exciting! The sky is their limit, with their new career choices on the horizon. Where will they go? What will they do? When will we see them again? Are all valid questions our clients love to know about our graduates.
There are so many choices for these new graduates. In today's market we have calls every month from salons, day spas, and franchise establishments who are looking for qualified workers in the Beauty field. Check out our last article - "2014 Update - Why a Career in Cosmetology?", for more information about all of the career choices these young ladies have facing them. So many choices, how wonderful is that?
They can work anywhere, choose large or small salons, corporate work, or work by themselves if they choose....limitless possibilities, and earn as much as they desire. With hard work and dedication to the field the sky is truly the limit!
