Ever wonder what it’s really like to be a cosmetology student? Well, grab your coffee, throw your hair into a cute style, and come spend the day with us at Penny Miller Cosmetology Academy!
7:00 AM — Rise, Shine & Find That Mascara!
It all starts the night before with a good night’s sleep. After all, tomorrow is going to be busy!
The alarm goes off, and it’s time to get moving. A refreshing shower, a little skincare, hair styled, makeup on, and we’re ready to look like the beauty professionals we’re training to become.
But first — BREAKFAST! Because nobody wants to practice a three-hour hairstyle on an empty stomach!
Grab the textbooks, notebook, pens, beauty supplies, and maybe a second cup of coffee. Double-check the bag because there’s always that one thing we almost forget!
8:45 AM — Destination: Beauty School!
The drive to school is the perfect time to turn up the music, mentally review yesterday’s lesson, and get excited about the day ahead.
Walking through the doors of PMCA means it’s time to put on that happy face, greet our classmates, and get ready for another day of learning, laughter, and a few surprises.
Some days we feel like future celebrity stylists. Other days we’re just hoping we remembered all the layers of the skin for our theory test!
9:00 AM — Beauty Brains in Action!
Before we get to the fun hands-on stuff, there’s some serious learning to do.
Hair structure, color theory, skincare, sanitation, product chemistry, and the science behind everything we do. Who knew there was so much science involved in making people beautiful?
We’re learning that being a great cosmetologist isn’t just about creating pretty hairstyles. It’s about understanding why products work, how to keep clients safe, and how to choose the right services for each person.
And yes, there will be a test!
10:30 AM — Mannequins, Makeovers & Maybe a Few Tangled Curls!
Time to grab our mannequins and get creative!
One minute we’re practicing sectioning and roller sets. The next we’re working on haircutting techniques, blowouts, braids, or perfecting that color application.
Our mannequins are very patient clients. They never complain, never arrive late, and don’t mind if we have to start over!
But every practice session gets us one step closer to becoming confident professionals.
12:00 PM — Lunch, Laughs & Girl Talk!
Lunch is more than just a chance to eat. It’s time to catch up with classmates, share a few laughs, talk about our latest beauty discoveries, and maybe quiz each other before the next test.
Beauty school friendships are special. We’re learning together, helping each other through challenging techniques, and cheering each other on.
1:00 PM — Real People, Real Skills, Real Confidence!
Now things get exciting!
We might be practicing facials, manicures, scalp massages, haircuts, styling, or even a luxurious Halo Head Spa treatment.
Sometimes we’re practicing on each other. Other times we’re welcoming real clients into our salon and spa.
There’s something pretty amazing about watching someone relax during a soothing facial or seeing a client’s smile after a fresh hairstyle.
We’re not just learning how to perform a service. We’re learning how to make people feel comfortable, cared for, and beautiful.
Under the guidance of our instructors, we’re discovering that great customer service is just as important as great technical skills.
2:30 PM — Wait… There’s a Test Today?!
Cue the dramatic music!
We’ve studied. We’ve practiced. We’ve highlighted our notes in three different colors. We even dreamed about test questions last night.
But when that test lands in front of us, suddenly we’re questioning everything we know!
Deep breath. Read the questions. Trust what we’ve learned.
And then comes the moment we’ve been waiting for…
WE PASSED!
The excitement is REAL! A little happy dance, a huge smile, and maybe a high-five from our classmates.
Every passed test and completed practical assignment is another step toward our dream career.
3:30 PM — Learning the Secrets Behind the Products
There’s more to a salon than beautiful bottles on the shelves!
We’re learning about shampoos, conditioners, styling products, professional skincare, treatments, and how to recommend the right products for different hair and skin types.
We’re also discovering the business side of beauty: professional consultations, sanitation, retail knowledge, appointment preparation, and building relationships with clients.
Someday, we might be working in a beautiful salon, opening our own spa, becoming a color specialist, or teaching the next generation of beauty professionals.
The possibilities are exciting!
4:30 PM — Clean Up, Check Off & Celebrate!
Before heading home, it’s time to clean and disinfect our stations, organize our supplies, complete our assignments, and check our progress.
Some days are challenging. Some days are exhausting. And some days we’re so proud of what we’ve accomplished that we can’t stop smiling.
But every day brings something new.
5:00 PM — Heading Home With Big Dreams!
We started the morning with coffee, makeup, and a bag full of supplies.
We’re heading home with a little more knowledge, a little more confidence, and maybe some hair color on our shoes!
Being a cosmetology student isn’t always glamorous, but it’s creative, challenging, rewarding, and full of opportunities.
We’re not just learning beauty. We’re building our futures, one client, one skill, and one passed test at a time!
